Volunteering for BugFest
About the Event
Get ready for the year’s most exciting event! BugFest 2008 will be on Saturday, September 20. The daylight portion of the event runs from 9 am until 5 pm and is followed by the Evening Insectival from 5 pm until 9 pm This year’s event will feature many old favorites such as the world famous Café Insecta and the Kid Zone. However, this year our theme is bees! And not just honeybees but native bees, wasps and hornets, as well. To celebrate our theme arthropod we will have many bee-focused activities such as the Bee Zone, an area on the capital grounds devoted to bees and beekeeping. We are also working to make the Evening Insectival a different and very exciting time with many more activities such as a guided nocturnal insect tour, a beehive hairdo contest in the auditorium and lots of performers both inside and outside of the Museum. As always, the Museum needs your help to keep BugFest the biggest and best event of its type in the world!
Volunteer Perks
All volunteers get a famous BugFest tee shirt, access to the hospitality areas, and priority parking in lot 17 underneath the Museum of History. Free lunch will be given to those who work two or more daytime shifts and dinner will be provided to those working during the Evening Insectival (5 to 9 pm).
How to Volunteer
If you would like to be a part of this bee-tastic event, download the Sign-Up Sheet (Word Document), make your selections and return to Tullie Johnson, Volunteer Coordinator by September 5 by mail, fax (919.715.6439), or e-mail (tullie.johnson@ncmail.net). Due to the large volume of volunteers that help staff BugFest, it may not be possible for us to contact you prior to the event; thus, if you send in a sheet, please assume you are working during the times you requested.
NEW FOR 2008: Volunteer Registration is outside, on the plaza, at the Information Tent which is the first tent on the left as you face the Museum entrance. Feel free to call Tullie at the Museum (919.733.7450, ext. 605) for more details.
When you arrive at the Museum on the 20th, please report to volunteer check-in 30 minutes prior to your shift(s) to confirm your volunteer area(s) and pick up your event materials.
